On 12 of April 1961 the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin landed in the field of collective farm of Shevchenko, near the village Smelovka, in27 kilometers to the south of the town Engels. This place was called «The field of Gagarin». At first, there was a post with a plank and inscription: "Don’t touch. 12.04.61.10.55 Moscow time». Small pedestal was constructed a year later.
In 1965 was installed 27-meter obelisk at the landing place of the first cosmonaut. In1981 infront of the obelisk was building amonument of Yuri Gagarin.
In 2011 on a memorable place was open «Gallery of cosmonautics» in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the person in space.
On this festive event Aerobatic team "RUSS" made a demonstrative display. It was very important and honorable display for our team. Yuri Gagarin is our fellow countryman, he was born and grew in 60 kilometers from our aviacenter.
